In this talk, I’ll discuss seven habits that I’ve found to be the most critical for open source developers. I’ll also give examples from my own experiences in the field of open source real-time communication platforms.
When I was in my early twenties, my parents gave me a copy of Steven Covey’s book entitled The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. I promptly thought “I don’t need a self-help book” and put it on my shelf. Twenty years later, I picked it up, started to read it, and was shocked at how many of the principles taught in that book line up with Open Source software and community development.
In this talk, I’ll put an open source twist on those seven habits, and share experiences that I’ve had over my career as an open source developer, enthusiast, and community evangelist.
